On Thursday, February 5, the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction Treaty (START Treaty) between Russia and the United States was officially terminated.

The agreement, which affects the two countries with the largest nuclear weapons reserves, was concluded in 2011, and then extended for another five years in 2021.

The contract provided for mandatory mutual inspections and visits by inspectors. In addition, it set a limit on the maximum number of nuclear warheads that countries could store and deploy.
