The rarest Atlantic ridley sea turtles (Lepidochelys kempii) have been found to be vulnerable to noise that results from human activities at sea, such as shipping and industry. This is reported in a study by Duke University specialists published on February 3 in The Journal of the Acoustic Society of America.

"Anthropogenic noise can pose a threat to sea turtles in the coastal and open waters of the western North Atlantic and the American Gulf, where shipping and the energy industry are widespread," the publication says.
