The driver of a car tower is awaiting trial for the death of a worker in the Irkutsk region

In the Irkutsk region, the investigation of the criminal case on the death of a worker who was trapped between the cradle of a car lift and a pipeline has been completed. This is reported by the regional prosecutor's office.

The defendant in the case is a 39-year-old Mitsubishi Canter lift driver. The investigation believes that on September 17, 2024, upon arriving at the place of work on the installation of thermal insulation, he handed over control of the lift cradle to the worker who was in it. The man bent down, accidentally pressed the joystick into lifting mode and found himself trapped between the cradle and the pipeline.

According to the prosecutor's office, the driver could not quickly stop the lifting of the cradle and lower it, because he allowed the elevator to operate with an inoperable emergency descent system. The worker who was inside the cradle died on the spot. According to the Investigative Committee, death occurred from mechanical compression asphyxia.

The investigation of the criminal case under Part 2 of Article 216 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation "Violation of safety rules during construction or other work that negligently caused the death of a person" has been completed. The case materials have been submitted to the court for consideration on the merits.

At the end of November, a worker at an enterprise in the Tula region got into a crushing machine while processing wooden products. The man died on the spot.
