In Thailand, tourists accidentally got to a funeral, mistaking it for a food festival, and were warmly welcomed by a grieving family who treated them to lunch. This was reported on February 4 by the Bangkok Post newspaper.

"When the tourists saw the round banquet tables filled with dishes, they assumed that it was a buffet or a local gastronomic event," the article says.

According to the newspaper, realizing that they were at a funeral, the foreigners apologized and wanted to leave, but the hosts insisted with smiles that they stay and share a meal with them. The family served them a full meal, refusing any payment. Later it turned out that the second group of tourists also made the same mistake and were received with the same hospitality.

Press Service of the Association of Tour Operators (ATOR) On February 2, she reported that the number of tourists visiting Thailand increased by 6.7% in January 2026 to 272,959. At the moment, tour operators are noting an increase in the duration of trips to Thailand, an active interest in sightseeing programs, an increase in demand from family tourists, an increased interest in premium accommodation facilities, as well as an expansion in the geography of trips.
