The restoration of the facades of the Central Telegraph Building, an object of cultural heritage of regional importance, has been completed in Moscow. This was announced on Wednesday, February 4, by the mayor of the capital, Sergei Sobyanin, in the Max messenger.

According to him, the building was built in 1927 according to the design of architectural engineer Ivan Rerberg and is a closed square with a five-sided tower at the intersection of Tverskaya Street with Nikitsky and Gazetny lanes. Over the years, the complex housed hardware and public halls, office apartments, bedrooms for shift workers, a library for employees and a nursery, the Moscow City News Agency reports.

Sobyanin noted that the comprehensive restoration began in 2022, Moscow 24 clarifies. During the work, specialists reinforced the foundations and foundations, equipped an underground parking lot and restored the facades. In the central part of the building, you can once again see the historical globe that has been decorating the facade for almost a hundred years: its frame, glass elements and rotation mechanism have been restored.

The mayor also said that other decorative elements had been put in order, including metal letters with the inscription "Telegraph", an openwork fence, flagpoles and lamp brackets at the main entrance. In addition, the restorers restored the bell clock, updating the dial and rearranging the mechanism, and a glass dome was erected over the courtyard, which protects the space from precipitation and fills it with natural light.
