Geely and Ford are discussing a potential partnership. The Chinese automaker is in talks to use Ford's facilities in Europe to produce its cars. This was reported by Reuters on February 4, citing sources.

According to their information, negotiations between Geely and Ford have been going on for several months, the parties have met both in China and in the United States, and top managers of both automakers took part in the discussions. In addition to localization of Geely models in the factories of the American company, the parties discussed the possibility of technological cooperation, in particular, in the field of automated driving.

The Ford plant in Valencia, Spain, is mentioned as a possible site for Geely production in Europe. The publication clarifies that the production of cars at Ford's European production sites can help Geely avoid European Union duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles. In 2024, the EU imposed temporary duties of up to 37.6% on imports of Chinese electric vehicles.

Some Chinese manufacturers have already taken steps to localize the machines in Europe, in particular, Leapmotor, which has established a joint venture with Stellantis. The production of Leapmotor electric cars is planned to be launched in Spain this year.

Earlier, on January 29, it was reported that Chery was close to concluding a deal with Jaguar Land Rover to manufacture cars in the UK. The deal will allow Chery to take advantage of spare capacity at JLR's manufacturing facilities, which will help save jobs and bring additional profits to JLR after the disastrous year 2025, when production was halted for more than five weeks due to a cyberattack.
