- The scientist pointed out the role of the parade of planets in space exploration
Nathan Eismont, a leading researcher at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, told how the approaching parade of planets helps to study space. In an interview with Radio 1 on Wednesday, February 4, he noted that observing from Earth how the planets line up looks especially impressive, but the value of such parades lies not only in their entertainment.
The expert explained that such alignments are of great practical importance for science, since during such periods the optimal mutual arrangement of celestial bodies for space missions is formed. This makes it possible to use gravitational maneuvers and the "help" of planets for scientific purposes — this is exactly the location, according to him, required, in particular, for the implementation of the Voyager program.
Thus, the coming year will be important not only for astronomy enthusiasts, but also for scientific research: scientists expect to use a favorable configuration of planets for new discoveries.
Earlier that day, scientists reported the possible beginning of disturbances in the Earth's magnetic field on February 5. However, magnetic storms are still forecast as weak.
On February 1, Roscosmos said that a large parade of planets is expected at the end of February: Jupiter, Uranus, Saturn, Neptune, Venus and Mercury will be visible in the sky at the same time. kp.ru . Some of them can be seen without optics, the rest are better to observe with binoculars or a telescope, according to 360.ru .
At the same time, it was reported that three strong M-level flares were recorded on the Sun at once, which is ten times more powerful than the usual class C phenomena. At the same time, astrophysicists had previously predicted a prolonged decline in activity for about a month, according to NSN.
January 21 at the Laboratory of Solar Astronomy of the Institute of Space Research (IKI) The Russian Academy of Sciences, citing data from the International Astronomical Union, reported that scientists discovered the first comet in 2026, which will burn up in the Sun in the spring. It is expected that this will happen on April 4. The celestial body was named C/2026 A1 (MAPS), reports RT.
On January 16, Evgenia Kravchenko, a senior researcher at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, told the Moscow City News Agency that Moscow residents would be able to watch a large parade of planets after sunset in late February: Mercury, Venus, Saturn and Jupiter could be seen with the naked eye. Using the telescope, it will be possible to view Uranus and Neptune, and Mars will be available for observations in the morning.
