Iran and the United States to discuss lifting sanctions at talks in Oman
Iran and the United States will hold talks in Oman on February 6 to discuss lifting sanctions against the Islamic Republic. This was reported by the ISNA agency in the Telegram channel.
The format of the negotiations will remain the same, with the mediation of the Omani side. Iran will be represented by Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi, while the United States will be represented by Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff. It is noted that the issue of the presence of businessman Jared Kushner at the talks is also being considered.
It is indicated that the negotiations will be indirect and will be limited solely to the nuclear deal and the lifting of sanctions against Iran.
Earlier on February 3, the Axios portal reported that Iran had demanded that negotiations be postponed from Turkey to Oman. In addition, it was stated that Iran intended to hold talks without the participation of observers from Arab countries.
Iran has previously indicated its readiness to make a deal with the United States by suspending or completely shutting down its nuclear program. It is noted that Tehran would prefer the proposal to create a regional consortium for the production of nuclear energy, put forward by the United States last year. Negotiations between Iran and the United States in 2025 ended inconclusively due to the start of Israel's military operation against the Islamic Republic and attacks by the American armed Forces on Iranian nuclear facilities in June last year.
