The Russian President's Science and Innovation Prizes for Young scientists in 2025 were awarded for engineering developments and fundamental mathematical research. This was announced on February 4 by Presidential aide Andrei Fursenko at a press conference in TASS dedicated to the laureates.

Seven young scientists have won the prize. The awards were awarded to Rosatom representatives Alexander Anikin and Pavel Maseev for creating beta-voltaic energy sources for spacecraft, Dmitry Butylsky for a new technology for producing lithium, Victoria Vedyushkina, Vladislav Kibkalo and Gleb Belozerov for their work on fundamental mathematics, and Artyom Isaev for researching new bacterial antiviral immunity systems.

"The open works this year were much stronger than the closed works. In particular, they were of dual use. Therefore, all four works are on an open topic," said Andrei Fursenko. He also highlighted the existence of fundamental mathematical work, which was unanimously supported by all experts.

The presidential aide added that among the applications there were many high-quality engineering works with significant personal contributions from young scientists. He urged young researchers to apply more actively, stressing that age is not a decisive factor in the selection process.

Fursenko also said that there are no plans to increase the number of laureates, but the amount of the award may be increased taking into account inflation.

Since 2019, the award has been worth 5 million rubles, and its presentation is traditionally timed to coincide with Russian Science Day on February 8.

On February 2, Alexey Likhachev, the head of Rosatom, announced that Russia had become a pioneer in creating a new generation of nuclear energy. He also awarded the laureates from the Kurchatov Institute with the Government Prize for the development and implementation of a high-capacity NPP project. The Institute also received an award for the development and introduction into mass production of fuel elements for the active zones of transport reactors, floating power units and low-power nuclear power plants.
