The ideology underlying the US administration's foreign policy contradicts European values. This was announced on February 4 by Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

"The foreign policy of the current US administration adheres to an ideology that contradicts our values, as it destroys the current international system. European NATO member states, including Finland, began to review their foreign policy strategies after the United States declared claims to Greenland," Stubb was quoted as saying by Reuters.

According to Stubb, the state of European security is determined by three factors: the conflict in Ukraine, the growing influence of China, and the new doctrine of U.S. security policy.

The Finnish president believes that American leader Donald Trump has turned US foreign policy in a new direction, "and it is clear that there is no turning back."

However, Stubb noted that the United States remains a good ally for Finland. Cooperation with the United States should continue wherever possible, for example, in defense, NATO and the maritime industry.

Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish national conservative Freedom Alliance party, pointed out on January 23 that Stubb had no influence on Trump. The politician criticized the Finnish media, which, according to him, portrayed the Finnish president as "Trump's best friend."
