A Russian woman held in a call center in Myanmar was beaten and starved
A Russian woman released from a fraudulent call center in Myanmar was regularly beaten and starved. This was reported on February 4 by a source of Izvestia.
According to him, the 21-year-old girl and her family had loans and debts, for which she was looking for a job. She spent about three months in the fraudulent call center.
"She was beaten, starved, and sometimes given boiled boiled rice and water. At first, they weren't even allowed to take a shower, then they only let them swim in cold water," the source said.
It is noted that citizens of Pakistan, China and India worked with the girl for the scammers — some of them, presumably, could have died.
On February 3, the Russian Embassy announced the release of the girl. According to the diplomatic mission, she was rescued by the joint efforts of diplomats, Thai and Myanmar police. They added that the released Russian woman was forcibly transported to Myanmar and involved in illegal activities in an illegal call center.
Prior to that, the Russian Embassy reported that three Russians had been abducted in Myanmar, presumably for forced labor in fraudulent call centers.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova, in turn, said that diplomats are doing everything possible and necessary to return the abducted Russians from Myanmar. According to her, Russian diplomats have already managed, in cooperation with Myanmar's law enforcement agencies, to rescue one Russian citizen from such a center and return home.
