Sobyanin spoke about the development of nuclear medicine in Moscow
Nuclear medicine makes a significant contribution to the treatment of oncological diseases in Moscow. Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin spoke about the new methods used in the capital's medical institutions in the MAX messenger.
Improving the accuracy and speed of diagnosis, as well as the introduction of personalized cancer treatment methods, is an important area in the work of the capital's healthcare system, Sobyanin wrote on his blog.
"Today, on February 4, oncologists celebrate their holiday. Representatives of a profession that requires the highest qualifications, perseverance and true humanity," the mayor emphasized. He noted that the Moscow team of oncologists consists of thousands of doctors united by a common goal: to give everyone a chance to recover.
Thanks to the development of infrastructure and the renovation of the equipment fleet, the number of studies has increased significantly in recent years, Sobyanin said. According to him, the complex of modern technology, which includes linear accelerators, played a key role in this. They allow for radiation therapy by exposing the tumor to a powerful beam of radiation, minimally affecting healthy tissues.
In 2025, more than 32,000 patients, including more than 4,000 children, underwent high-precision radioisotope diagnostics in Moscow. In total, over 41,000 studies have been conducted, 1.8 times more than in 2021, Sobyanin said.
Nuclear medicine technologies are represented in seven city hospitals: MMCC "Kommunarka", MKNC named after A.S. Loginov, GKB named after S.S. Yudin, Research Institute of Joint Venture named after N.V. Sklifosovsky, Hospital for War Veterans No. 3, GKB named after A.K. Yeramishantsev and Children's City Clinical Hospital named after N.F. Filatov. The Cancer Center of the S.S. Yudin State Clinical Hospital also uses another high—tech field of nuclear medicine, radionuclide therapy. The method effectively complements more traditional surgical and drug treatment.
