The Colombian president handed Trump a list of drug lords to arrest
Colombian President Gustavo Petro handed over to his American counterpart Donald Trump a list with the names of drug lords living abroad. He stated this on February 4 at a press conference following a meeting with the US president in Washington.
"The first line in drug trafficking is occupied by those who live in Dubai, Madrid, Miami. I have passed on their names and related persons to President Trump. These are the main leaders," he said at a press conference. The broadcast of the speech was posted on the YouTube channel of the DRM News portal.
According to the head of Colombia, the money of the ringleaders is located outside the country, therefore, in order to jointly combat them, it is necessary to pursue them with the help of intelligence agencies of other countries.
Petro also stressed that in order to combat transnational drug trafficking, the key step is to detain the leaders of criminal groups, among whom there are also Colombians, but they are not the majority.
On January 9, Trump announced that his meeting with Petro at the White House was scheduled for early February. He also expressed confidence in the success of the upcoming negotiations, which were aimed at stopping the import of drugs into the United States.
Prior to that, on January 7, the American leader announced that he had had a telephone conversation with the Colombian president, in which he explained the drug situation and discussed other differences that had arisen between Washington and Bogota. Trump noted that he appreciated the tone of his Colombian counterpart.
Petro himself posted a photo on social media the day after the conversation, which depicts the symbols of his country and the United States — a jaguar and an eagle.
