UK charges brother of sauna owner in Prokopyevsk

The investigative authorities of the Investigative Committee (IC) of Russia in the Kemerovo region have charged the brother of the sauna owner in Prokopyevsk with poor-quality services, in which five teenagers died in a fire. This was announced on February 4 by the press service of the department in the Telegram channel.

"The defendant, together with his brother, illegally organized the provision of bath and sauna services in a room on Kubanskaya Street in Prokopyevsk in gross violation of fire safety requirements. In particular, the facility was not equipped with the necessary fire extinguishing equipment and accessible evacuation exits, which posed a real threat to the life and health of visitors," the department said.

It is noted that the person involved in the case has been charged with committing a crime under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet safety requirements, resulting in the death of two or more persons by negligence").

The accused, among other things, provided sauna workers with safety instructions, although he himself did not have the appropriate qualifications and necessary education. Currently, the investigation is deciding on the choice of a preventive measure in the form of detention.

The death of five teenagers in a fire in a private sauna in Prokopyevsk became known on January 31. The recorded fire was eliminated at the same time on an area of 70 square meters. m. A criminal case was opened on the fact of the incident under Part 3 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Provision of services that do not meet the requirements for the safety of life or health of consumers").

According to the mother of one of the dead boys in a conversation with Izvestia, her son went to a classmate's party. At some point, the teenager stopped contacting. When the young man's parents contacted the administrator of the leisure facility, they were told that there had been a fire. At the scene of the incident, the arriving parents were given their children's mobile devices, one of which had a flashlight on.

On February 2, the court arrested the owner of the sauna. On the same day, the Central District Court of Kemerovo chose a preventive measure for the sauna administrator in Prokopyevsk. The accused has been placed under house arrest.
