Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova commented on the photo of EU Ambassador to Ukraine Katarina Maternova, saying it did not reflect the real suffering of civilians. Zakharova announced this on February 3 in her Telegram channel.

According to the diplomat, the picture taken in Kiev is not able to convey the horror of life under shelling.

"Katerina Maternova failed to convey the full horror of life under bombing, including because of the too comfortable environment," Zakharova wrote.

She added that Brussels should have remembered the EU's role in what is happening and the suffering of the civilian population. Zakharova also stressed that for many years Moscow has been calling on the European Union to pay attention to the situation in Donbas.

"People lived in basements for years, went outside under shelling to get food, and died trying to get to a car," the Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman said, recalling the fate of children and civilians in Donetsk and Luhansk.
