Nebenzia discussed the issue of Donbass and Crimea with Guterres
Permanent Representative of the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzia met with Secretary General Antonio Guterres to discuss issues on the international agenda, including the situation in Donbas and Crimea. This was announced on February 3 by the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation in its Telegram channel.
"Permanent Representative Nebenzia met with UN Secretary—General Guterres. <...> The Russian side expressed serious concern over the recent statements of the Secretary-General containing a selective interpretation of the UN Charter regarding the correlation of the principles of self-determination of peoples and the territorial integrity of states," the publication says.
It is noted that Guterres pointed out the contradiction of the statements of the UN Secretary General with the charter of the organization and the need for strict and unbiased observance of its provisions.
On January 29, Guterres said that the principle of self-determination of peoples allegedly does not apply to Crimea and Donbass, unlike Greenland. He noted that this conclusion was reached after careful consideration of the situation in the Office of Legal Affairs.
