Soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces told about the demining of settlements in the Sumy region

Fighters of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) settlements, including the homes of local residents, are being actively mined in the Sumy region, trying to slow down the advance of the Russian Army (RF Armed Forces). On February 3, Izvestia correspondent Tatiana Simonenkova described the details of the military personnel's combat work.

After each departure of the Ukrainian heavy drones (UAVs), the fighters of the North group receive tasks — to enter the route and check the drops of shock ammunition. This is due to the rapid retreat of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Militants are mining roads and neighborhoods of populated areas.

To eliminate the danger to the assault units, sappers of the 56th Airborne assault Regiment of the North group of forces create trails in the minefields.

"In the Sumy area, we currently have [most] tasks — engineering reconnaissance <...> and mine clearance, as well as mining," said the platoon commander with the call sign Kolibri.

He also explained that sappers manufacture and transfer explosive devices to the front line to undermine enemy fortifications.

At the same time, Russian fighters are faced with mining houses of residents of the Sumy region. The Ukrainian Armed Forces plant explosive devices in the basements of buildings, closed attics. The presence of tenants inside does not bother them.

"They began to clear trails, look at roads, and search for the DRG (sabotage reconnaissance groups. — Ed.). <...> We were somewhere in basements, enclosed attics, houses. And they found a booby-trapped door. <...> When we had already cleared it, we went in, and there were already Ukrainian grandparents there. <...> They were glad that they had come out at all. They thanked me," said the senior sapper of the 56th regiment with the call sign Miner.

At the same time, the fighters encounter voice traps that simulate cries for help. The deputy platoon commander with the call sign Shaman told about a case when monotonous repeated screams from one house made the sappers suspect an ambush, and the next day the building was destroyed by a powerful explosion.

"We were passing by houses and heard a voice: <...> "help, save." And it was repeated all the time, and it was monotonous. Well, that is, a person cannot [speak] like that. <...> The next day we pass through there — the house collapsed very badly. There was probably an anti—tank mine type charge there," the Russian military said.

On February 1, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that crews of towed M-46 howitzers of the 30th Motorized Rifle Regiment of the 44th Army Corps of the North group of forces of the Russian Armed Forces destroyed firing positions, UAVs and concentrations of manpower of the Armed Forces units in the Sumy region during combat missions.

The artillery units of the North group of forces, as specified in the ministry, eliminate the AFU units around the clock and in any weather, while constantly being on high alert. It is noted that the experience gained by the soldiers of the Russian Armed Forces allows them to hit the first shell exactly on target.
