- The infectious disease specialist explained the advantages of a thermos over a thermocup
Sergey Ryabov, Deputy chief physician of the central district hospital Dubna Hospital, an infectious disease specialist, explained why a thermos is better than a thermocup.
In an interview with Radio 1 on Tuesday, February 3, the expert noted that for long walks or work in the cold, an ordinary thermocup may be a less safe choice than a classic thermos. This is due to differences in design and usage principle. The doctor explained that the thermos flask closes hermetically, whereas the thermocup always has a drinking hole through which infection can enter.
According to him, the thermos is designed specifically for long-term storage of a drink: it is opened much less frequently, so that the internal environment remains more sterile. Therefore, from the point of view of safety during long-term storage, a thermos flask wins.
He also clarified that it is better to choose a thermos for use throughout the day — for example, on a hike or at work: the drink is poured, tightly closed and opened only if necessary to pour. The thermocup is suitable for short—term use - trips to work or walks for two to three hours, since its main task is to maintain the temperature of the drink that is drunk immediately.
January 24, toxicologist, columnist Pravda.Ru Igor Sedov stated that most disposable paper cups have an inner coating of a thin polymer film, most often polyethylene. It prevents the paper from getting wet, but it is this layer that becomes a source of microplastics when heated. According to research, after 15 minutes of contact with hot water, tens of thousands of nanoparticles can be released from one such cup into the liquid.
In September, Marina Moiseyak, professor of the Department of Fermentation and Winemaking Technologies at ROSBIOTECH University, said that on average thermoses maintain temperatures from six to 12 hours due to the vacuum design, but tea will not be equally healthy and tasty all the time. According to the expert, green tea is less resistant to storage in a thermos. After three to four hours in a thermos, it loses its fresh flavor and richness, acquiring a brightly bitter taste.
Earlier, nutritionist Elena Solomatina, in an interview with RT, talked about how to eat properly during the working day. For example, you can take a thermos with broth or mashed potatoes.
