- An increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections has been recorded in Moscow
In Moscow, there is a slight increase in the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory viral infections. This was announced by the press service of the Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) in the capital on Tuesday, February 3.
"Compared to the previous week, there has been a slight increase in the incidence rate among the total population, but epidemic thresholds have not been exceeded either in the city as a whole or in individual age groups," the Moscow City News Agency quoted the report.
The ministry clarified that the proportion of influenza viruses in the overall incidence continues to decrease. Currently, rhinoviruses predominate among infections, writes Moscow 24.
Earlier this day, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko announced that the flu and SARS season will end in March–April. According to the academician, at the moment there are different levels of morbidity intensity.
In turn, Lyudmila Kulagina, a clinical pharmacologist at the KFU University Clinic, said that the Russian Ministry of Health has approved an updated protocol for the diagnosis and treatment of influenza, excluding two groups of drugs from uncomplicated therapy — antibiotics and diuretics.
On January 29, Stanislav Ionov, Professor of the Department of Therapy at the Medical Faculty of the State University of Education, said that the flu differs from the common cold in severe intoxication with fever and muscle aches, whereas acute respiratory viral infections often immediately affect individual organs — throat, eyes and nose.
