The cases of the former head of the Kursk region and the vice-governor on bribes were sent to court

The Russian Prosecutor General's Office has sent to court cases of bribery in the amount of more than 20 million rubles against the former head of the region, former deputy governor of the Kursk region Alexei Smirnov and former vice Governor Alexei Dedov. This was reported on February 3 in the press service of the department.

"The criminal case has been sent to the Leninsky District Court of Kursk for consideration on its merits," the Prosecutor General's Office said in a statement on its website.

According to the report, between June 2022 and April 2023, Smirnov and Dedov received bribes in the amount of more than 20 million rubles from representatives of commercial organizations. It is specified that they received money for concluding municipal contracts and construction contracts.

In addition, Dmitry Shubin, a local resident, acted as an intermediary between the former deputy governors and the organizations. They are charged under Articles 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving bribes in the form of money by an official through an intermediary and personally") and Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code ("Mediation in bribery") accordingly.

On September 10 last year, the Russian Prosecutor General's Office sent to court a case on the embezzlement of 152 million rubles, which were intended for the construction of fortifications in the Kursk region.

A witness in the courtroom on January 26 of this year reported that the construction of the Kursk fortifications was supervised by the first ex-deputy governor Alexey Dedov and ex-deputy governor Roman Denisov. The witness also noted that the construction of the fortifications was under the supervision of the Capital Construction Department. The next day, Dedov said that all the funds he received in the form of "kickbacks" were transferred to the ex-governor of the region, Alexei Smirnov.
