The European Union (EU) is forced to act with caution in its response to the US threats on Greenland due to the tense global situation. This was announced on February 3 by the head of the European Diplomacy, Kaya Kallas, at a conference in Norway.

"Of course, we are acting cautiously, because there is a lot at stake. <...> We must be very careful, you know, to follow this path, move along this road and try to adapt and work. We don't want to conflict with anyone," Callas said.

She also said that the time has come for a new EU Arctic policy, "which will meet modern realities." According to Callas, all actions should be based on strong partnerships.

"The EU understands that Greenland is strategically important for the United States. It is also strategically important for us, the European Union," Kallas added.

On February 2, Callas stated that the process of the United States moving away from Europe began long before the arrival of US President Donald Trump and is of a long-term and structural nature. According to her, the European Union needs to adapt to the new order.

On the same day, Callas retracted her words that it was impossible to create her own national European army. After being asked by the moderator at the Norwegian security conference to clarify her position, Callas replied that these were not her words, but the words of NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

On January 26, NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte announced the end of an era when the United States bore the main burden of ensuring Europe's security. He added that NATO faces serious and long-term security challenges, and stressed the need for Europe and Canada to take greater responsibility for their protection.
