The expert shared her plan of action in the first days after the oncodiagnosis.
After making an oncological diagnosis, it is important not to panic and clearly build a plan of action. Miroslava Sergeenko, founder and president of the Oncologica Charitable Foundation, told Izvestia on February 4 about what to do in the first and most difficult days.
"In many ways, the disease is banal and this is especially terrible bad luck. It makes no sense to look for someone to blame and ask yourself the question "why me." It is much more important to focus on the next steps," the expert noted.
The first practical step, according to Sergeenko, is contacting a polyclinic at your place of residence to receive a referral to an outpatient cancer care center (CAOP) or an oncological dispensary. It is the oncologist who becomes the key specialist who guides the patient at all stages. The type of tumor is determined by a pathologist, and the choice of therapy directly depends on this. Sergeenko stressed that the entire bulk of examinations, including biopsy, CT and MRI, are available under the compulsory medical insurance policy.
After the diagnosis is completed, the oncological council determines the treatment tactics.
"The patient has the right to know what was discussed, to receive a discharge and to ask questions. If in doubt, a second opinion is acceptable, but two or three consultations are enough - then confusion begins," said the president of the foundation.
The expert also touched upon the topic of lifestyle. Many people sharply limit their diet, refuse to work and be active — this is a mistake. In addition, the specialist warned: Strict diets are dangerous, but you can and should work, travel, and exercise if you have the strength. Alcohol is contraindicated in most cases. She also warned against uncontrolled intake of dietary supplements, which can have an unpredictable effect with medications.
"Fear and confusion in the early days are normal. A person may need psychological or legal assistance, which can be obtained through charitable organizations. Defeating cancer is a team effort. It is important for the patient to ask questions, keep documents and, if necessary, seek support," concluded Sergeenko.
Oncologist, PhD Evgeny Cheremushkin said on January 20 that the risk of developing cancer increases significantly from regular consumption of alcoholic beverages. The expert explained that when drinking alcohol, the pancreas and stomach are primarily affected, since alcohol actually causes burns to these organs. According to him, damage to the mucous membrane leads to the development of chronic inflammatory processes: the gastrointestinal tract reacts to irritation by increased production of secretions, including bile.
