An auto expert warned about the dangers of remote engine start
Remote start of the car can accelerate engine and battery wear if the car owner does not follow a number of recommendations. Konstantin Ershov, coach of the training center of the international network of Fit Service car services, told about this, Rossiyskaya Gazeta reports on February 3.
So, according to the expert, during remote start, frequent and long cycles can be set, and in this mode the engine runs for a long time on cold oil and low RPM, which is much worse for the resource than a short start and further movement.
For example, if the engine runs for 15-20 minutes every couple of hours all night in winter, the engine does not reach operating temperatures, and some of the fuel may get on the cylinder walls, washing off the protective film of oil and diluting it in the crankcase. As a result, carbon deposits are more actively deposited on candles and exhaust system elements, and the life of the cylinder‑piston group is reduced. The specialist noted that modern engines are initially designed to warm up in motion, and not to stand at idle for a long time.
In addition, due to frequent starts at low temperatures during a long stay, the battery releases more energy than the generator has time to replenish. As a result, the battery may run out. Finally, the expert drew attention to the fact that the poor quality of the alarm system installation, along with possible problems with the machine's functionality, creates risks of dangerous short circuits and local overheating.
On January 29, auto expert Nikita Rodionov warned that the main threat to a car in winter is the physical transformation of materials: liquids thicken, lubricants lose mobility, and rubber elements lose elasticity. These changes directly affect the resource of key nodes and aggregates.
