The Second Court of Cassation of general jurisdiction recognized the verdict of the former chief freelance narcologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation Evgeny Brun as lawful. This was reported by a correspondent of Izvestia.

On January 28, Brun was released from serving his sentence in a penal colony due to poor health.

The court found that in 2015, the defendants in the case created an organized criminal group with the aim of stealing funds from the MNPC of Narcology and the Moscow Depzdrav. By conducting fictitious transactions between controlled organizations, the defendants bought reagents and testing equipment at a cheap price, and then sold them to the state at deliberately inflated prices. Some of the stolen money was legalized through a chain of shell companies.

Together with Brun, Vladimir Yakushev, vice-president of the Russian Narcological League, was sentenced to a penal colony, and the head of the bidding department of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center for Narcology of the Moscow Depzdrav (MNPC) Lyudmila Eremenkina received six years in a penal colony. The former head of the Moscow Scientific and Practical Center of Narcology, Sergei Koporov, went to serve his sentence in a general regime colony for four years, and the CEO of the Microtechnology company, Sergei Vasiliev, was sentenced to six years in prison.

Brun's detention in Moscow became known in August 2022. Besides him, four other people were detained. As part of the case, 27 addresses were searched. He is accused of embezzlement by supplying medical devices for the determination of drug addiction at inflated prices to the MNPC of Narcology.

In October 2024, the Kuzminsky District Court of Moscow sentenced Brun to seven years in a penal colony for fraud and a fine of 850 thousand rubles. Initially, the state prosecution requested eight years in a general regime penal colony for Brune.
