Alexander Ovechkin, a forward of the Washington Capitals hockey club, became the most media personality of Russian sports in 2025, taking first place in the joint rating of Sport-Express and the Medialogia analytical system.

The rating assessed three parameters: the number of mentions in the Russian media, activity in Russian-language social networks, and a special "Sport-Express" index that takes into account the headlines and attendance of materials on the publication's website.

The second place was retained by the head coach of the Russian national football team, Valery Karpin, and the third by football coach Sergey Semak. Ovechkin was the leader in two of the three indicators, and the race for Wayne Gretzky's record for the most goals in the NHL provided him with a wide media response.

Islam Makhachev, Matvey Safonov, Mirra Andreeva, Roman Rotenberg, Sports Minister Mikhail Degtyarev, Artyom Dzyuba and Daniil Medvedev also entered the top 10.

In total, the rating includes 50 people, most of whom are representatives of football, hockey and figure skating.

Earlier that day, Ovechkin set a new record, surpassing Canadian hockey player Wayne Gretzky in the number of points scored for one club in the NHL. Thanks to an assist in the match against the New York Islanders, he reached 1,670 points and rose to fifth place in the historical league rankings.
