Nutritionist listed foods that increase the risk of dementia
Nutritionist and nutritionist Sofia Kovanova told us which foods increase the risk of dementia.
In conversation with aif.ru On Tuesday, February 3, the specialist said that some foods negatively affect the functioning of the brain. Dementia reduces cognitive functions: memory, thinking, speech, ability to navigate, and others. The risk factors for developing dementia are divided into manageable and unchangeable. The former include lifestyle, diet, and traumatic brain injuries, while the latter include age, gender, and genetic predisposition.
As explained by Kovanova, foods high in sugar, trans fats and food additives — in particular sausages, fast food and sweets — negatively affect the condition of blood vessels. Their regular use impairs blood flow and nutrition of neurons, which causes brain cells to lose their ability to recover faster, which can eventually manifest as memory loss.
The specialist also stressed that there is currently no universal cure for dementia: modern drugs can only slow down the progression of the disease.
Kovanova advised on February 2 to eat right to reduce the risk of dementia. According to the nutritionist, those foods that are rich in B vitamins, omega acids and choline are good for the brain. They help to repair nerve fibers, notes 360.ru .
In September, a nutritionist, PhD Elena Solomatina said that eating berries helps in the prevention of dementia. According to her, berries are rich in vitamins, antioxidants, and trace elements that protect cells from aging, are important for cancer prevention, and support healthy skin, hair, and nails. Cherries and cherries contain a lot of melatonin, which is not present in such quantities in other berries. It is a hormone of sleep and recovery, says RT.
In March last year, general practitioner and nutritionist Elvira Fesenko said that the Mediterranean type of diet slows down dementia. According to her, it is also worth considering including yogurt or sauerkraut in your diet to combat the disease. Fermented foods will help maintain the gut microbiota, which will also have an impact on brain function. The expert also warned that excessive salt intake adversely affects the state of the brain. Excess sodium impairs blood circulation, increases the risk of vascular dementia and can lead to oxygen starvation of nerve cells, the website writes. kp.ru .
Earlier, Chinese scientists came to the conclusion that excessive consumption of aluminum-containing foods can lead to dementia. Dementia also threatens fans of sugary sodas, NSN notes.
