Almost 80% of Russians consider healthy and healthy nutrition to be the basis of a healthy lifestyle, according to a survey conducted by Izvestia on February 3. The Logic of Milk Company, a leading producer of fresh dairy products, baby food and plant-based beverages in Russia, and the NAFI Analytical Center studied the main factors motivating Russians to lead a healthy lifestyle.

Thus, according to the survey, Muscovites most often emphasize the importance of a healthy and healthy diet (86%). At the same time, more than half of Russians (53%) reported their commitment to the principles of healthy lifestyle and healthy nutrition, of which the highest proportion is in Moscow (58%) and the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District (57%).

The results of the study show that adherence to a healthy lifestyle varies markedly depending on age. Thus, more respondents aged 14-17 (74%), 18-24 (63%), and 55 years and older (58%) adhere to the principles of healthy lifestyle. In the 35-44 age group, there is a parity between those who lead a healthy lifestyle and those who do not follow such principles (50%), and more people who are indifferent to healthy lifestyle are recorded among those aged 45 to 54 (51%). The main factors motivating Russians to adhere to the principles of a healthy diet are taking care of their health, the desire to prevent future health problems, weight control and maintaining good physical shape, as well as the desire to have more energy. At the same time, only 12% of respondents adhere to healthy lifestyle on the recommendation of doctors, and 3% — as a tribute to fashion trends.

Among the main obstacles on the way to a healthy lifestyle, Russians named the difficulty of giving up the usual and not always healthy food (35%), the high cost of natural products (34%), as well as the lack of time to prepare healthy food (23%). Also, 14% of respondents say that they do not want to include healthy lifestyle products in their diet because of their taste qualities.

The study involved more than 5,000 Russians aged 14 and older living in all federal districts. The sample is based on official statistics from Rosstat and represents the population of the Russian Federation by gender, age, level of education and type of settlement. The statistical error of the data does not exceed 3%.

Marina Stepanenko, nutritionist at the SM Clinic, reported on January 29 that the opinion that expensive superfoods are needed to maintain health is not true: many affordable products can effectively compensate for the deficiency of vitamins and trace elements. One of these products, the expert clarifies, is seaweed, which occupies a leading position in terms of iodine content — only 100 g of the plant covers the daily requirement of an adult.
