The call by the Minister of Energy of Ukraine Denis Shmygal to suspend Russia's membership in the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) contradicts the charter of the organization. This was stated on February 3 by Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna.

"It seems to me that it is not necessary to pay special attention to this statement of the Minister of Energy of Ukraine. Kiev regularly performs on the international stage with exotic demands that baffle even its Western curators. One of such obsessive Ukrainian ideas is the exclusion of Russia from the IAEA Board of Governors," Ulyanov said.

Ulyanov stressed that such an exception was impossible.

Mikhail Ulyanov stated on January 20 that Ukraine was trying to put its energy problems on the IAEA's agenda, which contradicted the agency's mandate. He added that since the autumn of 2024, Ukraine has been actively seeking the adoption of a resolution on permanent monitoring of the condition of electrical substations.
