The investigation of the case against 46-year-old Ilya Yelagin and 30-year-old Tamerlan Kazaev, surgeons at the private IQ Plastique clinic, who are accused of killing a patient after weight loss surgery, has been completed. This was reported on February 3, January in the Telegram channel of the Moscow Prosecutor's office.

"It has been established that Elagin and Kazaev, being surgeons at the private clinic of Ai Q Plastic LLC, performed improper treatment of a patient who applied to the clinic for weight loss surgery, concluding a contract worth more than 300 thousand rubles," the report says.

It is noted that in February 2024, Kazaev unlawfully filled out a preoperative epicrisis instead of the operating doctor. At the same time, Ilya Yelagin, who directly performed the operation on February 16, 2024, did not justify its necessity and negligently ignored medical indications.

After surgery, the patient was discharged from the clinic. However, on February 20, he again complained of feeling unwell. Despite this, Yelagin left the patient under outpatient supervision.

As a result, signs of complications requiring emergency intervention were detected untimely. The investigation believes that the defendants were negligent in their postoperative supervision, which led to the development of complications. Medical care at the private clinic was delayed. On February 23, the patient was transferred in serious condition to the intensive care unit of another medical organization, where, despite the assistance provided, he died on February 27, 2024.

The department added that the criminal case was further sent for consideration to the Savelovsky District Court of Moscow.

In April 2025, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of house arrest for a period of two months against both defendants. According to investigators, the doctors who performed the operation on the deceased, for selfish reasons and in order to reduce the volume of their work, showed indifference to the patient when providing medical care, which led to his death. It is noted that the defendants did not intend to cause harm, but were aware of the danger of their inaction.

In the same month, the main investigative department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation in Moscow reported that the deceased was a 36-year-old man. The day after the operation, his condition worsened, and he returned to the clinic, where he underwent a second surgical intervention. Subsequently, the patient's condition continued to deteriorate, after which he was transferred to another medical facility. There, the man fell into a coma and subsequently died. .
