"Felix Placencia has been appointed Venezuela's new diplomatic representative to the United States in order to promote constructive cooperation and develop bilateral relations," the statement said.

It is noted that the diplomat's mission will be to "respectfully consider both the interests and differences between Venezuela and the United States, covering energy, political and economic aspects."

The new diplomatic representative and his team are expected to travel to the United States soon.
