- Errol Musk linked the publication of Epstein's files to the internal political struggle in the United States
The documents in the case of financier Jeffrey Epstein, accused of crimes against minors and human trafficking, could have been published as part of a campaign to discredit political opponents. This opinion was expressed on February 2 by billionaire Elon Musk's father, Errol Musk, in an interview with Izvestia.
"Well, yes, it is obvious that there are political points that can be earned by trying to denigrate opponents or present them as immoral," he said.
At the same time, Musk Sr. noted that this "does not help" and cannot change anyone's mind.
"I was a politician in this country myself. I saw how everyone was trying to destroy each other," said the billionaire's father.
According to him, if politicians had the opportunity to say something negative about their opponents, they certainly used this opportunity.
On the same day, American political scientist and journalist Garland Nixon told Izvestia that the release of documents on the Epstein case occurred against the background of an internal political struggle in the United States and could be part of a "distraction maneuver" to reduce the public's negativity from a potential military conflict with Iran.
Retired US Lieutenant Colonel Earl Rasmussen also said that the publication of documents on the financier's case may have a political reason. He pointed out that the scandal affects not only the United States, as a large number of people around the world were also involved in this situation. Thus, the new batch of declassified files contains references to the Rothschild banking dynasty, as well as high-ranking politicians from Israel.
Epstein's files began to be published on December 20, 2025. On November 19 of the same year, US President Donald Trump signed a bill to make them public, although the first part of the documents, containing the names of more than 150 people involved in the financier's case, was published in January 2024.
