- The WSJ learned about the Trump administration's discussion of targets for possible strikes on Iran
As the US military group expands in the Middle East, the administration of US President Donald Trump is discussing options for possible strikes against Iran. This was reported on January 30 by The Wall Street Journal (WSJ), citing sources.
"The US armed forces have formed an impressive group in the Middle East within Iran's reach. Now President Trump has to decide how to use it," the publication says.
It is reported that the main purpose of possible strikes is the subject of discussion. Among them are damage to the Iranian nuclear program, an attack on the Islamic Republic's ballistic missile arsenal, or actions to overthrow the government. It is noted that another option includes a combination of all three goals.
Later, on February 1, Trump expressed hope for reaching an agreement with Iran, emphasizing the presence of the "most powerful ships" of the United States near its shores. On the same day, the politician stated that he was confident in Tehran's renunciation of nuclear weapons. He clarified that he really hopes for such an outcome.
On January 31, Fox News reported on the US refusal to disclose plans for Iran to other countries. It was also noted that Saudi Arabia would not allow its airspace to be used for a war in which it was not involved.
