On February 2, Russian director and screenwriter Alexander Sokurov called the rotation the reason for his exclusion from the Cinematography council.

"I'm not the only one excluded from the squad. This is a normal rotation. <...> I have never participated in the work of this council. In all likelihood, I was simply not invited there," the director told TASS.

Sokurova added that he did not participate in the work of the council.

In addition to Sokurov, director Valery Todorovsky, former presidential adviser on culture Vladimir Tolstoy, head of the Soyuzmultfilm animation studio Juliana Slashcheva, producers Eduard Iloyan and Valery Fedorovich, film critic Natalia Mokritskaya, and executive director of the Kinoprime Foundation Anton Malyshev were excluded from the council.

According to a decree issued on January 30 by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Sokurov and Slashcheva were excluded from the Council for the Development of Russian cinematography. The board includes screenwriter and producer Alexander Akopov, CEO of Central Partnership LLC Vadim Vereshchagin, General producer of Okko LLC Gavriil Gordeev and film director Sergey Ursulyak.
