The Finnish border guard has detained four foreign citizens who tried to enter Russia through the closed border near the city of Imatra. This was announced on February 2 on the service's website.

"The patrol detained four foreigners on suspicion of committing a crime at the state border. It was previously established that these individuals were connected with the alleged crime," the ministry said in a statement.

It is noted that on January 30, the border guards received an alarm from a technical surveillance device at the eastern border checkpoint.

Information about the nationality of the detainees is not provided. It is assumed that foreigners may be involved in the facts of human trafficking and pimping revealed by the Finnish police in the city of Oulu on January 29.

On January 16, the Finnish border guard service detained three German tourists who illegally crossed the border between Russia and Finland on snowshoes in the area of the Pagliakke ski resort in Kuusamo. After entering Russian territory, they later returned to Finland. During the interrogation, the men admitted that they had tried to cross the border out of curiosity.
