Bastrykin asked for permission to open a case against Judge Kostulin in the LPR
Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, appealed to the Higher Qualification Board of Judges with a request to allow the initiation of criminal proceedings against Sergei Kostulin, Chairman of the Anthracite City Court of the Luhansk People's Republic (LNR). This was announced on February 2 by the official representative of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Svetlana Petrenko.
"The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has sent a submission to the Higher Qualification Board of Judges of the Russian Federation on giving consent to initiate criminal proceedings against the chairman of the Anthracite City Court of the LPR," Petrenko is quoted as saying in the Telegram channel of the Investigative Committee.
Kostulin is suspected of receiving a bribe in the amount of 1.5 million rubles. According to the investigation, the judge offered the intermediary to receive money from the sister of the person involved in the criminal case, promising to impose a minimum sentence.
The bribe was transferred under the control of the FSB. The case against Kostulin was later transferred to another judge, and then suspended due to the transfer of the accused to the special Military operation zone (SVO).
On January 29, law enforcement officers detained in St. Petersburg the head of the 178th military representation of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Captain 2nd rank Vladimir Nikitin, in a case of receiving a particularly large bribe. A criminal case has been opened against Nikitin under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation ("Receiving a bribe").
