Over the past weekend, 391 road accidents were recorded on Russian roads, in which 42 people were killed and 544 injured. 36 of the dead were drivers and passengers. This was reported to Izvestia on February 2 by the State Traffic Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

In the Tver region, a 56-year—old crossover driver on the Konakovo —Dulovo -Vysokovo highway decided to skip an adjustable railway crossing at a forbidding traffic light, but collided with the Lastochka electric train. The culprit and his passenger were killed in the accident.

The State Traffic Inspectorate reminded motorists of the importance of observing the rules of passage of railway crossings, since this maneuver is considered dangerous and requires the driver to focus and pay maximum attention. Despite this, some drivers try to pass in front of a nearby train. Trying to gain a few seconds of travel, they often endanger not only their own lives, but also the lives and health of their own passengers, railway staff, passengers of commuter trains and long-distance trains, the department noted.

In addition, 23 bus accidents were recorded on Russian roads over the weekend, in which three people died, and 43 more road users, including four children, needed medical attention. The cause of 12 incidents were traffic violations committed by their drivers.

So, in the Kamchatka Territory, at night, on 102 km of the Milkovo — GOK Aginsky technological highway, a 53-year-old bus driver traveling from Yelizovo airport with 25 passengers in the cabin exceeded the set speed and drove off the road, followed by overturning the vehicle. As a result of the accident, five bus passengers were hospitalized with injuries, and the driver and four other passengers were sent for outpatient treatment after receiving medical care.

As a result of 100 accidents involving pedestrians, six people were killed, and 103 more were injured in various degrees of severity. Among the injured are 14 child pedestrians, 11 of whom were injured when crossing the roadway in designated places. Of the total number of pedestrian incidents, 43 occurred at pedestrian crossings and 57 outside their area of operation. 49 accidents involving minors were registered, 54 young road users, including 40 passengers, were injured in them. There are no dead children.

The State Traffic Inspectorate urged motorists and bus drivers to strictly observe traffic regulations and be more careful when driving, especially in the morning and evening.

"Remember that the life and health of the people you are transporting depend entirely on the skills, driving experience, well-being and law-abiding behavior of the person behind the wheel. We also draw the attention of drivers to the strict observance of the rules for the safe transportation of children. Take care of your young passengers, preventing even the prerequisites for a possible tragedy," said Police Colonel Sergey Hrantskevich, head of the Department for the Promotion of road safety and prevention of child traffic injuries at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.

The ministry noted that the lack or negligence of driver's control over the safe transportation of preschool and primary school children, as well as parents' inattention to their behavior on the street and leisure, often lead to injuries or deaths of young road users. According to operational data from the State Traffic Inspectorate, in the first month of 2026, 919 accidents involving minors under the age of 16 occurred in the Russian Federation, in which 26 children were killed and 1,067 injured.

In January, it became known that Moscow had broken its own historical record for road safety. The number of deaths in road accidents per 100,000 population (the social risk level) decreased by the end of 2025 to 2.22 units, said Maxim Liksutov, Deputy Mayor of the capital for transport.
