Beer sales in Germany in 2025 decreased by 6% and reached a historically low level. This was reported on February 2 by the German newspaper Stern.

"Sales volume fell by a record 6%, amounting to approximately 7.8 billion liters, according to the Federal Statistical Office. This is the lowest figure since statistics began to be collected in 1993. Even during the COVID-19 pandemic, breweries sold significantly more beer," the article says.

The authors of the article note that the decline in demand for alcoholic beverages in Germany has been traced for several years. This is due to the desire of Germans to lead a healthier lifestyle, changing habits and the general aging of the country's population.

The Daily Telegraph newspaper, citing the Society of Independent Brewers and Their Partners (SIBA), reported on February 1 that almost 140 breweries had closed in Britain in 2025. The main reason for the closure of breweries is the increase in taxation in the country, including an increase in value-added tax and excise taxes on alcohol.
