Hyundai's return to Russia with the purchase of the plant in St. Petersburg could have a positive impact on the Russian car market. This opinion was expressed on February 2 by Maxim Kadakov, editor-in-chief of Za Rulem magazine, commenting on Korean media reports that the company had decided not to return to managing Russian assets due to ongoing sanctions and geopolitical uncertainty.

"It would be nice for us if the Koreans returned and, in partnership with a Russian co—owner, would load the plant in St. Petersburg to the fullest - and put new-generation machines in the most popular segment in Russia on the market. These would be good cars for taxis, for public procurement and just for life," Kadakov wrote on his Telegram channel.

The auto expert noted that there were no prerequisites and conditions for Hyundai's return to Russia a year ago, when discussions of such a development appeared in the media.

Earlier in the day, it was reported that Hyundai Motor did not use the option to buy back its former production plant in Russia, which was valid until January 31, 2026.
