French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barraud said on February 1 that the European Union (EU) needs a direct channel of communication with Russia.
"The Europeans, who are now Ukraine's main financial and military sponsors, should have a channel to defend their interests without shifting responsibility to anyone else," he said in an interview with the newspaper Liberation.
