One policeman was killed and another critically injured in a shootout at a hotel in the suburbs of Atlanta in the United States. This was reported on February 1 by the Associated Press (AP), citing the district police.

"Gwinnett County Police said in a statement that the shooting began early Sunday morning after two officers were called to report a scam at a hotel address near Stone Mountain, about 25 miles (40 km) northeast of Atlanta," the statement said.

The police clarified that the officers confronted the suspect, who, upon seeing the police, immediately pulled out a pistol and opened fire on the law enforcement officers, as a result of which one of them died and the second was critically injured.
