- The Iranian authorities have published a list of almost 3,000 names of victims of the riots.
The Office of Iranian President Masoud Pzeshkian, by his order, published a list of names of those killed during the riots in the country, currently it contains 2,986 names. This was announced on February 1 on the website of the presidential administration.
"The Office of the President, in a statement based on a policy of transparency, responsibility and accountability <...>, published a list of 2,986 victims of recent events, compiled on the basis of names prepared by the country's forensic medical examination," the ministry said in a statement.
The statement clarifies that there are a total of 3,117 victims of the protests in the country, but the identities of 131 people have not yet been identified, so at the moment only 2,986 names are on the list. It is reported that the missing names will be published in a separate list after they are clarified.
During a meeting with ambassadors of other states on January 12, Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said that the authorities had taken control of the situation with the protests that broke out in early 2026 in the country.
On January 23, Araqchi confirmed the deaths of more than 3,000 people as a result of the riots. He noted that the majority of the dead — 2,427 people — were civilians and law enforcement officers. Another 690 dead, according to the authorities, are members of armed groups.
Statements by Western media about 30,000 dead during protests in the Islamic Republic were refuted on January 25 by the official representative of the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Bagai. He noted that such actions are truly cruel.
