The portrait resemblance of the angel's face in the fresco in the Roman church of San Lorenzo in Lucina with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has become the reason for the proceedings by the metropolitan Diocese and the Ministry of Culture. This was reported on February 1 by the Italian portal RTL.

The similarity was noticed after the restoration of the fresco, carried out by 83-year-old Bruno Valentinetti. He is the author of an original work created in 2000 for the Jubilee Year of Christianity.

According to him, due to the increased humidity, the paints faded over time, and the work needed updating. Valentinetti rejected accusations that he deliberately portrayed the current head of government, noting that he had only restored the former appearance of the fresco, the photographs of which have not been preserved.

However, as the newspaper notes, a possible symbolic hint is indicated by the composition: two angels surround the bust of the last king of Italy, Umberto II of Savoy, and one of the cherubs holds a scroll with the outlines of Italy. The mural does not belong to cultural heritage sites, as it was created relatively recently.

Giorgia Meloni herself responded to the media reports.

"No, I don't look like an angel at all," she wrote on Facebook (owned by Meta, recognized as extremist in Russia).

The face of Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni was discovered on January 31 on a fresco in the church of San Lorenzo in Lucina in Rome after its restoration. The restoration of the fresco was carried out by an unprofessional restorer on a voluntary basis.
