Trump announced a possible "deal with Cuba"
On February 1, US President Donald Trump said that the United States could hold talks with representatives of Cuba at the highest level, noting the difficult socio-economic situation of the country.
"Cuba is a state in decline. It's been like this for a long time. However, now she no longer has Venezuela, which used to support her. Therefore, we are negotiating with representatives of Cuba at the highest level and we will see where this leads," the American leader told reporters in Florida.
He noted the need to support people from Cuba who live in the United States and, according to him, have been subjected to ill-treatment by the Cuban authorities. Trump said that such people should receive help and be able to return to their homeland.
"They still have families there, and they haven't had the opportunity to see them for many years," he added.
Trump also said that Cuba is in a difficult situation and there is a humanitarian problem in the country.
On the same day, it became known about the fuel shortage in Cuba amid increased pressure from Trump. Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel accused the head of the Trump White House of trying to strangle the island.
On January 29, President Trump's decree appeared on the official website of the White House, announcing the introduction of a national emergency regime. At the same time, duties were imposed on imports of goods from countries supplying oil to Cuba.
