An employee runs the risk of not receiving monetary compensation for many years of unused vacation upon dismissal, if it is proved that he deliberately refused to rest. This was announced on February 1 by Ekaterina Stenyakina (United Russia), a member of the State Duma Committee on Labor, Social Policy and Veterans' Affairs, in an interview with TASS.

"Sometimes a person accumulates 70-80 days of rest over several years and expects to be paid when he leaves. But it is important to establish the reason.: is this a violation on the part of the employer, who did not let the employee go for the required 28 days a year, or did the employee decide not to take a vacation?" explained Ekaterina Stenyakina.

If it is proved that the employee did not voluntarily use the right to rest, the court has the right to refuse to pay compensation for all accumulated days. Such precedents already exist in judicial practice.

On January 29, it was reported that a group of LDPR deputies had drafted a bill that proposes not to take into account weekends when calculating the duration of annual paid leave. According to party leader Leonid Slutsky, the current system, in which days off are included in the total vacation period, is unfair, as it actually reduces the employee's rest time.
