Onishchenko urged Russians not to be afraid of smallpox monkeys
Monkey pox began to be controlled in the last century, and today Russia has all the necessary means to diagnose it. This was announced on February 1 by Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Deputy President of the Russian Academy of Education Gennady Onishchenko.
"Monkey pox, when we eliminated smallpox, we immediately brought it under control. It was 1980, I say we, because I've been involved in this before. <...> We have a diagnosis for this disease," RIA Novosti quoted him as saying.
Onishchenko added that in case of smallpox in monkeys, the patient will be quarantined and cured.
On the same day, Rospotrebnadzor announced that an epidemiological investigation was underway in connection with the hospitalization of a person with suspected smallpox in the Moscow region. Biomaterial was also collected for research and an order for disinfection was issued.
