The death toll from a January 1 fire in a bar in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana has risen to 41 after the death of one of the victims. This was reported on February 1 by the AFP news agency.
"A Swiss citizen aged 18 died in a Zurich hospital on January 31. The death toll in the Constellation bar fire on January 1, 2026 has increased to 41," Vale Prosecutor Beatrice Pioux quoted AFP as saying.
The fire occurred in the basement of the Constellation bar at about 01:30 (03:30 Moscow time) on New Year's Eve, when a disco was taking place in the establishment. Earlier it was reported about 40 dead. Most of the victims are young people between the ages of 14 and 24. More than 100 people were injured.
According to the investigation, the cause of the fire was fireworks fountains that set fire to the ceiling covering of the bar.
On January 2, it became known that during an explosion and fire in the Constellation bar at the Crans-Montana ski resort in Switzerland, more than 20 people suffered burns to about 60% of their bodies.
