- The Italian Foreign Minister stated the priority of the Balkans in joining the EU over Ukraine
On February 1, Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said that the Balkan countries have priority over Ukraine in the process of joining the European Union.
"We support Ukraine's accession to the EU, but first there are the Balkans. We have committed ourselves to them, and they are a priority for us," Tajani said in an interview with Corriere della Sera newspaper.
He added that the Friends of the Balkans meeting will be held in Rome on March 3, and on April 1, he and German Foreign Minister Vadefulem will visit Belgrade to express support for Serbia.
"We will help Ukraine, which needs to go its own way," the Italian Foreign minister stressed.
Antonio Tajani called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ungrateful on January 23 after his speech at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos. The politician stressed that the contribution of the European Union (EU) countries in support of Ukraine was significant and played a key role in ensuring its sustainability.
