Mema called Orban the only one capable of conducting a dialogue with Russia from the EU

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban is the only one who is suitable for the post of special envoy of the European Union (EU) to negotiate with Russia, but the likelihood of such an appointment is extremely low. This opinion was expressed on February 1 by Armando Mema, a member of the Finnish Freedom Alliance party.

"In the EU, only Orban could take on such a role as a peacemaker, but the EU leadership would never allow him as a negotiator," TASS quoted him as saying.

Mema noted that even Italian Prime Minister Giorgio Meloni was not suitable for this role, because at the time when Joe Biden was president of the United States, the politician was betting on a "military victory for Ukraine." He also stressed that none of the EU leaders is suitable for the role of a "peacemaker".

Earlier, on January 25, Thierry Mariani, a member of the European Parliament (EP) from France, said that Finnish President Alexander Stubb was being considered as a possible representative of the European Union (EU) in negotiations on a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine. According to him, Stubb, who heads a country with a rich historical experience of interaction with Russia, combines a tough approach with pragmatism and consistently advocates dialogue, recognizing that achieving peace often requires compromise solutions.

On January 14, a number of high-ranking EU representatives spoke in support of the initiative to create the post of special representative for Ukraine. At the same time, supporters of the proposal believe that the direct participation of the European Union in the negotiations will make it possible to defend key issues for it, including further security guarantees and possible prospects for Ukraine's future membership in NATO.
