On February 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia on the Day of his Enthronement.

"I would like to note just this organizational beginning after your enthronement, after you started managing not only the spiritual sphere, but also purely organizational issues. Of course, the life of the Russian Orthodox Church has changed, and much has been done to strengthen transitions and organizational structures. This is certainly your personal achievement. And this makes it possible to work effectively in the main sphere, in the spiritual one," the president said.

In turn, Patriarch Kirill thanked Putin for the way the church and the state interact. In his opinion, this is a rather unique case in Christian history, especially in Russia.

"The level of interaction between the church and the state, which is now in Russia, is very, very convincing evidence of the correctness, firstly, of the state's policy towards the church, and I also think about the worthy position of the church in society and the provision of spiritual support to our people. This, of course, is your great merit. We all greatly appreciate the contribution that you personally have made to this area of church-state relations," Patriarch Kirill said.

On January 19, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia called Putin an Orthodox leader in his Epiphany sermon at Moscow's Epiphany Cathedral.
