Orban said Hungary was defending its interests in the Ukrainian conflict
Budapest adheres to the position of neutrality in the Ukrainian conflict, focusing on protecting its own national interests. This was announced on January 31 by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
"Why should we choose who Hungary will be for — Ukrainians or Russians? Why should I be on one side or the other when I am on Hungary's side?" he said, speaking at an event in Hatvan, Hungary, broadcast by M1 TV channel.
He also compared the issue of choosing a side to a board game played in Brussels.
On January 31, Orban said that Budapest does not intend to assume financial obligations to support Ukraine and shift their consequences to Hungarian citizens. The head of the Hungarian government stressed that the European Union (EU), together with the Ukrainian authorities, in his opinion, are trying to achieve the formation of a government in Hungary that will agree to fulfill their demands.
